They are making progress on the new Georgia 400 overpass at Brown’s Bridge Road (GA-369)!
The new interchange will greatly relieve traffic jams we experience in rush hour when exiting GA 400 onto Keith Bridge Road, where the traffic is usually backed up all the way to Brown’s Bridge light at Hammond’s Crossing (where the RaceTrac station is near Publix).
Once the new interchange opens, instead of exiting at Keith’s Bridge, I’ll travel up to the Brown’s Bridge ramp where there will no longer be a traffic light so you can immediately turn right onto Brown’s Bridge to reach Hammond’s Crossing. This adds a half mile to your trip, but Brown’s Bridge will be 4 lanes between GA 400 and Hammond’s Crossing so you’ll avoid the bumper-to-bumper traffic on Keith Bridge which is going to remain 2 lanes only.
Perhaps a faster option will be avoid Hammond’s Crossing altogether by staying on GA 400 to pass under the new overpass and exit at the Martin Road traffic light, where turning right and then turn left on Shadburn Road takes you to Keith Bridge road to the traffic light near CubeSmart. This route is only .6 miles longer than exiting GA 400 at Keith Bridge, so it well may be the fastest. We’ll see how that works in rush hour.
The bad news: the GA DOT is about to redo the Keith Bridge & Brown’s Bridge intersection at Hammond’s Crossing as part of these improvements. You’ve already seen they’ve been busy moving all the utilities in past months to make way for widening the intersection. Soon they’ll be adding more turn lanes in all directions, and so we’ll endure slowdowns during that construction. Eventually we’ll have a much bigger intersection at Keith & Brown’s Bridge roads making it quicker to come home from GA 400 to Cobblestone Farms!
The county has a short video about the project which you can view by clicking the button below.
To build these improvements Forsyth County paid $26 million from its 2014 transportation bond approved by voters, while GDOT will pay $16 million.
